Horse Riding Info.

IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT'S HAPPENING ON FRIDAY KEEP SCROLLING DOWN....

This is about horse riding here.... on the Berwyns.

Those of you wanting to go riding need to fill in an activity form and give me your personal information, no, not inside leg measurement, though that's important. (I think they guess it based on your height). You'll need to let me have the forms and a crispy tenner (actually a cheque is better) by Friday the 14th October.
(Don't forget to pay your subs too).

Mini Beasts

No, not you.....

.....THEM!!!
We will be conducting a Darwinian survey of local habitats to assess bio-diversity in some of the UK's richest eco-systems (old Oak, fallen timber and natural ponds), looking for sign of adaptation and resiliance to environmental change, and lead by one of our science book judging panel.

Also, just looking at the general weirdness of life at the small scale... (not you, them - remember)

Bring mini-beast traps, nets, lures and lamps! Be sneaky!
We will creep up on them on Friday 30 September at the Anwyl's Leaton Home Farm meeting at the lower car park shown on the map below at 6:30-8:00pm

AUTUMN PROG (ON THE BLOG).....

Drum Corps Cancelled Thursday 29th September

Roger can't make it this week (or the last week of every month) so it's cancelled this week. By next week we will have a new drum and a sample strap to have a go with. Hopefully Steve will come along again to show you how to really drum. Don't think they make straps for wheelchair users so we'll have to improvise!
I couldn't find a video of anyone playing as many drums as he did before he went to Afghanistan but here's a guy with 3 sticks!

High Ceilings

It rained - a lot - really lots! So the caves were  too full of rain to fit any scout in them... but it was a Gill Scrambling Camp - just like caves with high ceilings :)
Here's some pics of the w/e: some are green 'cos the underwater phone case is green to balance underwater colour saturation, some are boggy 'cos it it was, some are just chilling about the hut 'cos that was dry so we did...

There's a mix of scouts and explorers here so I'll post it to both blogs! BOGOF!

Wheely good start for B.E.R.T5e

BERT5e rides again! (well, trundles)
We had our first meeting of this year's team on Tuesday 7:00 to 8:30 - there's 12 of us so we can get lots done! We've made a good start at the model making and have some ideas for the new Bert5e - in particular we have a first platform to test already, so next week we will get started thinking about our project and start testing programs and thinking about how to get points in the Robot Game. So - some homework (what! Homework from scouts!!!! - yup - but its OK - you don't need to write essays - just do some advance prep for brainstorming so we can get some ideas for the project that we can turn into experiments and have fun (c:
Have a read of the project description and a go at doing the bits that say 'Each Team Member'

KAYAK AK AK AK kwak...

So long as the sick people at PGL have dismantled the barricades and re-opened we can do some Kayaking on Friday! You WILL get wet, you WILL get a bit cold and you WILL have the chance to splash the Leaders (if you are quick enough).
So, a change of clothing, a towel and a plastic bag to carry it all in would be a good idea. No uniform apart from neckers as you will be straight into the Kayaks.
Early start due to the nights drawing in - 5.45 at the hut. If you are late I can't guarantee you will be able to find us.
Subs are due now please, and don't forget to leave your mobile at home (they don't float!!!). Also don,t forget the consent form - no form, no Kayaking.

Horse Riding

To decide how many scouts are interested in horse riding on Friday 21st October (Corbet PD Day) please book a ticket. We may have to make a charge as it's expensive but this is just to judge numbers.
It may be easier to book a ticket on the page linked below:-

WE ARE ON THE MOVE...

But only for this Friday. PGL are closed this week as they have a virus and so we will be meeting at West Felton Primary School, 8.00 till 9.30.
The school is down the lane next to the Punch Bowl pub and we hope everyone can make it.
Hopefully back to normal the following Friday as we have a special evening planned - oooooh mysterious!!!!

Yes, it is drums tonight

I'm sure Roger told me to do this a while ago. If you hadn't guessed it is drums tonight at 7pm at Baschurch Primary.

Watch out for changes to Scouts on Friday.....

Home at Last!

We had a great cycle ride on Saturday and raised money for a number of local churches and the Historic Churches Trust.

We visited ten churches, loads of geocaches, cycled through the ford at Maesbury, got pecked by rheas in Dovaston and spent a huge amount of time on the new BMX track in Kinnerley. Overall we did 26 miles and had just 12 punctures!!! No wonder we were late back.

Well done to all the cyclists and special thanks to Jerry for back-up support.

Back to it again.......

this Friday the 16th of September at the usual times of 8.00 till 9.30. Wow, the Summer has flow by but we can now look forward to an Autumn term of Fireworks, Camps, Kayaking, Caving, Mountaineering, Robotics, Petes' Infamous Surprise Night (oh no!) and constructing a life size Saturn 5 rocket. OK I lied about the last one but it looks to be an exciting term, starting with Back To Basics (whatever that is).

Please don't forget to wear your uniforms and to leave your mobiles at home!!!

See you on Friday..........

"Help!!! I can't get in!!!"

"That's because they didn't design you an opposable thumb BERT4E!
You need some new roboteers for Team Bor-EAT-ton! the 2011 FLL Challenge!"

Let me know if you want to be part of the team - its good fun and we generally do well - you get a chance to earn a CREST award for your CV and get a day off school! 'cos I always aim to choose a school day for our tournement! We usually meet at my house on a Tues or Weds evening over the Autumn term, but we can do a different evening if it works better.
Give me a call or post a comment if you want to be on the team!

Fame!

...for those that havn't already seen... This is the article from the Shropshire Star about the Scalextrix team... (oh it seems to be about girls! Oh well, thats newspapers for you - they just write what they want to. (I definately didn't say the quotes they've given me - I said similar things, but I'm a bit less of a dork than that and I'm fairly sure they just made up the rest of the quotes too, along the general lines of what we said...)) But hey! Fame!!

Science book judging

The hols are over! It's time to get everything going again!
Well, I guess some people are still grabbing a last minute break, but I'd like to get the science book judges together again - not least because you'll be running one of the troop nights soon and we need to plan what to do! I trust you've all read your books and are ready to tell us about them, and we'll see what we can DO to check out just how much fun we can get out of them!
My current favourate from the Icky Sticky Blood and Snot Book is the chocolate flavoured snot chemistry experiments it led to! Yum! (I think...)

Lets meet at my place at about noon on Sunday 4 September to see what else we can do!

LJC at the Corbet

I know you can't wait to get back! And now you can - sooner! The LJC (the local council committee that gave us the money for our hut) are running a community event at the Corbet tomorrow, 3 September, at 12:00. We're helping support it by running the climbing wall we've borrowed from the SSGMG. Come along and join us - better yet, come along and help put it up! We hope to be there from about 10:00 struggling to get it put together in time!!!
