District Archery practice

This coming Friday (22 April) we will be meeting up like last meeting, at around 2pm but at Bowbrook field for outdoor archery and clout practice I hope. Looks like it will be great weather to spend a little time at the butts but make sure you have suncream and a hat and some drink!

The following Friday (29th - the RW day!), we will be meeting up at around 10.00am. We have had to change arrangements as Bowbrook archers need the field during the afternoon.

Hope see you all there - give me a call if you are unsure about locations etc

Hurrah for the troops!

Thanks to those that turned out today for the Royal Irish's parade - that's how we should be marching! And you're famous! Here's a pic of us all before the parade from the Beeb's website http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-shropshire-13052296 Hope you enjoyed it (and the icecream after)

Canoe Camp Pictures

Well done to all the canoeists. Harry & Ali told us it was 22 miles but I reckon with all the wind we did a whole marathon! I hope you all enjoyed it, especially the weather. Thanks to all the scouts who told Terry it was a good camp, he's decided to give me my camping permit so it'll be easier to organize camps in future. If you didn't believe Micro caught a whale look at the pictures! It really was HUGE.

You can find the photographs in my Picassa Album HERE

Happy Easter!

It's the hols already! Make sure you eat lots of choc! There's no scouts during the hol or the first Friday back at school (which is the extra royal wedding bank hol so you'll all be busy at your street party anyway (???)

Scouts starts again on Friday May 6, when most of you will meet at the scout hut except our Archers who will be heading to muster at Phasels Wood to shoot for gold and glory in the National Scout Archery Competition as part of the Shropshire Company.

(OK the team doesn't always shoot this well but this round was worth a photo! Well shot!)>

We will be contacting the team and other members of the district archery club about clout practice on the Field of Bowbrook when we get details but I expect at least one practice during the hols. Meanwhile the tech team 'Rory the Scoutmobile' ("we are a scout troop from Boreatton and we are all about speed" they say) need to get speedy about finalising their Scalextric4Schools competition entry, so we will continue to meet on Tues evenings 7-8:30 (whoever is not away on exotic holidays with family)

Wind tunnel is a work in progress but we have a fan speed controller and we can see we're not getting enough rear downforce with this design...

Finally, the Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire has invited us to join him in welcoming the Royal Irish back from their tour of Afghanistan when they parade through Shrewsbury on 12 April.

We plan to meet in the abbey grounds at 11:30 and march up to join the rest of the county scouts. Parades are always stirring events and we will bring flags to wave - if you have a union flag (not jack - we're not at sea) of your own you could bring it along!

Camp Emergency Contact

Roger's just told me he's going away this weekend but will be contactable on his mobile. Unfortunately the number on the contact sheet is wrong! Correct details below.

Prepare for Camp?

OK so on the prog blog it says prepare for camp, but Pete was so keen to do it he has booked the camp for the first possible hour of the Hols! There is no 'prepare for camp' meeting at the scout hut tonight Friday 8 April because you are all in Bickley doing the camp! There is District Archery on Sunday 10 April for any keen archers that are not canoeing so if you are around, let me (Alan) know - I will go along because whilst I can't yet run around the woods or canoe for long stretches, I should be fine at standing still... (not fair - I wanted to do the canoe and its going to be a hot and sunny spring camp!!!) I will come and visit camp too- so save me a sausage!
