SSGMG Derbyshire weekend

Whilst Phil and Andy were looking after most of you last week, I was with half a dozen of the older scouts on the annual SSGMG climb'n'cave weekend - its great fun and if you're over 12 or thereabouts and have been coming along to the SSGMG hikes regularly (see the link to the right for the current prog) you can do this next year! I took loads of pics (new lens - toy - on the camera) so I've stuck them in a couple of vids... Some of the climbs were severe and hard (well done guys), and the cave is 'Giant's Hole' - we only went to the first pitch so we'll have to go back and explore some more.... ("Idrys....!")
PS - Guess the backing tracks!

Thanks to all the SSGMG leaders for organising it (and us)!!!

Hedge Fun

No not hedge funds - they're rubbish these days - we're doing our eco bit at Home Farm Leaton next week. We will be meeting at the Farm, early so we can see what we are doing, and help maintain the new hedgerows at the farm to ensure a good diverse habitat... We'll make it nice like this!

Scouts that have taken part in two or more of our activities with home farm will have earned their Environment Award.

My current plan is to meet 6:30-8:00 at Home Farm Leaton - bring GLOVES (protective - not wooly mits) and Goggles/safety glasses if you have them as grubbing about in hedges in the twilight is prickly. We'll have some spares if you haven't any...
Here's a map of where to meet...

County day - 27 Sept 2008

I spoke to everyone and their answerphones yesterday and here are the details I promised!

We will meet at 10:00 at the little chef car park by the Mile End Roundabout and then arrive togther before 10:30 at Park Hall near the Oswestry Showground (I'm not too sure how distinct Park Hall is from the showground but it'll be obvious as we arrive... (I hope!)

We will take some rolls and bangers but if you need to eat more, bring pack lunch or some pennies (there will be burgers for sale)

Activities run from 10:30 to 4:00 after which (I didn't realise it was after, so you may want to stay later than 4:00!) we will win the elastic band egg race (assuming we finish them tonight - ever the optimist!)
As there is a rifles activity I will need a signed consent, and so I've attached the form here for you to download along with the details as sent to me.

Eggselent progress...

But it doesn't look quite finished yet...

I was away last meeting with the older scouts in Derbyshire so a big thanks to Phil and Andy for running the meeting and getting our rubber band powered egg-racers started.

We do not have a meeting programmed for tonight - 26 Sept - but we need to do a bit more work to get them finished and speedy so we'll meet as usual at the scout hut for those working on the eggmobiles!

The band is back together

We wnet to laser quest and bowling for our first meeting ('cos its fun) but now we're back in business and practicing for the remembrance day parade...

Its a bit more disciplined than normal scout meetings, but it means we have the best band in the county (!)

(OK the only one)

If you want to learn how to drum, and make the most noise of any scouts at our parades, we are always looking for new recruits - just as me or one of our SPLs

Basically....

Gosh - its ages ago, but I said I'd get up to date with some pics of what we've been up to... Back to basics was basic pancakes -
Yum! what more do you need to say!

ulp!

Falling behind in my blog already!!! Oh well... too many things going on without an asl to share them with... (Marksmanship training, Robotics club, Drum Corps, SSGMG weekend, troop night....)
As I suspected bits of the prog are already out of date (didn't last long huh) - in particular:

Friday 19 Sept - Troop night at the scout hut preparing our rubber-band-egg-racers for the county day (i.e. not the eco work at Leaton Home Farm) usual time 8:00-9:30 with Philippa (be nice to her and listen when she needs to explain stuff to you!)

Friday October 3 - Eco work at Leaton Home Farm (details to follow) and we will reschedule the bridge building!)

Autumn Prog Blog

Here is a first go at the prog! I'll expand on it later...

We're back

A new term dawns - Autumn, my favourite! season of fire and mud!

The drum corps kicked off our term with a trip to Quasar and Bowling (see its not all hard work in the drum corps!) . This clip was staged for camera to show how good we are at the bowling.... hmm.... oh well - we were usually better...

Let me know if you'd like to join and learn to march and drum! (not sure it will help your bowling skills though!)
