Do Canoe Camp!

Here's some picies from the mini canoe camp - the weather was kinder to us this time and we didn't get the forecast torrential rain and gales (phew!). It rained a bit but only when we were either in the tents or getting wet anyway... which happened more often as the expedition wore on...

Here we are heading down the Severn (unusually, all pointing the right way!)

Hmmm... either they or I are pointing backwards in this one

Lunchtime with the scouts is always a most civilised affair...

... limboing up for the next day's canoeing...

...and by the end we were all looking quite proficient (if we wanted to)

There are some more pics in one of my public albums...

Thanks again to Drummond Outdoor - it was great!

Holey smoke!

Or by the end of the evening, that should be wholly smoke!

The air cannon are great, and even better when you add smoke so you can see the vortex rings!

Cracking!

We were having a go with the small-bore rifles this time - much louder!

...also, we suffered a sudden outbreak of purple fuzzy ear!?!
(how can you tell them to keep quiet when you cannot hear whether they are, and they cannot hear you?)

The Bisley camp is ages off but very popular and I need to send off names and fees soon so let me know if you want to come , otherwise - have a good half term hol!

I'll see the other half-a-troop's worth of you on Friday at the hut as usual for canons!

Mini-Camp forms

The camp forms are useful forms, so they aren't here... but here!

Rifles and canons

This week is another split troop activity... I will have phoned those doing the Rifles session at the Telepost club, so if you do not hear from me then you are in the half that will meet at usual time and place on Friday 23-5-08 at the hut. If you are coming to Wednesday 21-05-08 Rifles session, do not forget to bring your Rifles Consent Form which is a 'Useful Form' - follow the link!
For those relying on scout memory/navigation skills (!) here's a map that may be of assistance...

Over the hill?

Last Sunday was a hard old day in the mountains - we climbed a kilometer or so of height in hot sun which is a bit harsh (especially if you haven't eaten and drunk a good breakfast before hand!!!)

but all got there (Snowdon!) in the end in time to get rained on... - my first time on top of Wales!

And then it got hot and sunny en route back down, so justified cooling off a bit!

I'll make the rest of the pics into a public album!

Doing the Biz - 2k8

I've just realised we need to be organised to enter the annual scout air rifle championships at Bisley in the Autumn 17-19 October 2008! Looks fun so if you want to go, let me know - there's a useful form to apply for a guest day at Bisley, I'll also need a permission to shoot useful form, and your name and £25 to put you on the list. Numbers are likely to be limited...(to 9 - it's been suggested) ('cos it looks such fun!)

Leader training...

Games at Miniclip.com - Sheep Game
Sheep Game

Get the sheep into the pen.

Play this free game now!!

Testing times...

It's that time of year ... we did a bunch of experiments loosely based around what inspired us in the Royal Society Science books - fun!

The judging panel will reconvene soon to conclude their deliberations, but in the interim, the troop liked the smoke bombs (obviously!) and (best) the scout walking on custard (but only so long as he didn't stop!).

(by the way - if you don't see much of yourself on the blog - it could be that you are spending the evening as a regular water fight? Why not try joining in with the activities? If you are not interested in the stuff we are doing then let me know what you would like to do - most ideas are possible with a bit of planning!)
